There are so many things to mention when discussing the frill-necked lizard: they're arboreal animals (living mainly in trees), they can be found in northern Australia and southern New Guinea, and they were featured on the Australian 2 cent coin until 1991. The most distinctive thing about the frill-necked lizards is their namesake frilly ruff around their necks, which they can flare out when they feel threatened or territorial.
One of our favourite things about the frill-necked lizard is the scientific name: "Chlamydosaurus Kingii". Ancient Greek chlamydo, meaning "cloaked" or "mantled", and saurus (sauros), meaning "lizard", 'kingii' is the latinised form of "king".
